Customer Testimonials

Hi Tracie,

Firstly, may I just say "thank you" for acting as Mediator during a recent work issue. Your understanding of the human psyche was apparent and your ability to remain impartial was essential to our journey.

This week has been completely different here in terms of conversations undertaken thus far. I feel the session last week has made me stop and evaluate my responses in a more courteous manner, understanding also that my sense of humour is, at best warped, and sometimes misconstrued. I am trying to be kind instead of impatient to different styles.

I thank you for your insight, guidance and support.

I would like to thank you for the mediation. I feel it has helped me address the issues by discussing them, and I now feel more confident to challenge when I have concerns. Thanks you very much.

Northampton Business
Mediation is a service offered to employees, funded by their employer, who have found themselves in a complex situation that everyday HR cannot resolve such as conflict between a line manager and their team or an individual.

Mediation is voluntary and completely confidential.

The Mediation People are proud that they have an 100% record of success with cases undertaken. Please see our testimonials.
An impartial independent mediator from The Mediation People will initially have a private and confidential meeting with each person that will be taking part in the mediation session.

This is to allow the individual to openly share their thoughts, feelings and views on the situation they find themselves in. This information is not shared with anyone including the employer.

After the individual sessions all parties will meet with the mediator at a location that suits all parties to discuss the situation. Your mediator will not make judgements or a decision on behalf of a client, but they will challenge, pose questions and reframe the situation to be sure each party has an appreciation for the other parties’ point of view and the effect the situation is having on each of them.

Assisted by the mediator a resolution that is agreeable and achievable to everyone is sort.
There most important benefit is that the tension in the work environment, ‘the elephant in the room’ will have been banished.

Workable relationships that look to the future are now possible and blame or fault becomes a thing of the past.

A lasting strategy, designed and agreed by all parties, can be agreed and implemented to quickly defuse any future difficult or challenging workplace situations should they occur.

Workplace Mediation helps to promote a happy and healthy workforce. Employees that are happy at work feel secure in their employment; workers that feel secure work to their full potential and have significantly less time away from work due to sickness.
Collective mediation is a specific term used when discussion takes place between a representative group usually a trades union and an employer.
The techniques and approach used vary according to the situation and the personalities involved. Every case, client and business is different and as such require a unique approach.

The techniques vary from supporting interaction, encouraging expression, diffusing difficult and challenging behaviour, offer empathy, setting sound boundaries and summarising the situation as it progresses.
Conflict is resolved by giving all parties permission to speak open and honestly; no stone is left unturned. Reflection time be that within the meeting or before another meeting allows all partied to be certain they are agreeing to a lasting achievable solution.
In mediation the mediator is an impartial third party who facilitates a healthy conversation without representing a party.

In negotiation each party represents their own position and attempts to persuade the other party to agree to their ideas or solutions.
There is no formal dress code for a workplace mediation session: please attend mediation wearing clothes that you feel safe and comfortable in.

If you are attending mediation during working hours dress as you usually would for a normal working day.
Yes, if it is requested and the Mediator deems is helpful and appropriate. The content of any report is discussed with the parties in attendance.

In some cases, the Mediator will make recommendation to the employer.
Yes, the mediator will make contact with the employer to hear how matters have changed or improved.

Resolving workplace disputes

Hiring an experienced workplace mediator is extremely popular with HR professionals as it reduces stress, resolves conflict amicably, restores working relationships and takes substantially less time than conducting a formal grievance.

Mediation in a business environment can be extremely helpful in cases where there is a dispute but both employees are willing to resolve their differences without grievances or potential disciplinaries.

What is the workplace mediation process?

Workplace mediation is usually initiated by senior management or the HR department rather than the conflicted parties themselves.

There is no rigid formula to mediation and workplace mediators will adopt a flexible strategy to suit the specific situation.
In some cases all parties will sit around a table and discuss the issue in an open forum, using the mediator as an impartial chair.
In other cases, the mediator can work with the parties separately and pass correspondence back and forth between them until a resolution is reached.

Unlike the rigidity of a legal route - trained mediators will often use their experience to develop practical and innovative solutions to complex problems and have much more flexibility when considering remedies.
